16 Week Update!

Dane and I went to the doctor this morning for our 16 week appointment and met with the nurse practitioner who is quite possibly the nicest woman in the entire world.  It was a quick and harmless appointment but the most exciting part was that they were FINALLY able to catch the little swimmer in there to hear the heart beat!  The past two appointments we have had ultrasounds because they couldn't find the heartbeat (which is always a little nerve wracking) but today they found the little bugger and we could hear the heart beat which just makes me smile every time!

Some of the unpleasant side effects of pregnancy have been effecting me this week and the nurse practitioner wasn't so happy with me.  Without getting too graphic I will tell you that my digestion system has slowed down immensely this week and the doctor gave me some over the counter solutions which will hopefully help out.  Once I get that situation taken care of I'll update the blog with a 16 week belly picture :)  Good news is even with my very slow digestion this week (it's been 3 days) I only gained 2 pounds in the last 4 weeks.  I know there is a human growing inside of me and I'm supposed to gain weight but I'm taking pride in not gaining too much too quickly :)

Impromtu Trip to Chicago

My grandmother had the brilliant idea that she wanted to make a trip down to Chicago to see my cousin Jason's children (Holden 3 and Billie 6 months).  The only problem with my grandmother's brilliant idea was that my Aunt Abby was flying into town all the way from Connecticut (flying through Chicago), so unfortunately she didn't come up with her idea soon enough for my Aunt to adjust her travel plans.  Either way, they made the 6 hour drive on Wednesday down to the big city.

I was sitting in my office frustrated at the situation because I never get to see my family and OF COURSE they choose to travel to Chicago in the middle of the week when I have to work.  We have been on a strict deadline at work, but it just so happened that I had all of my work done and was just sitting in my office twiddling my thumbs with nothing to do.  I finally decided to send my boss an email to ask if he minded me taking the rest of the afternoon off as well as Thursday so I could go see my family.  Thank god my boss is amazing because I was on the road 20 minutes after getting his go ahead.

My whirlwind trip involved family time, snuggling babies, building blocks, and good food!  Not only that I got to spend time with my sister who is 23 weeks pregnant and my mother who is MORE than excited to become a first time grandmother.  Everyone keeps asking to see pictures of Amanda's growing belly because she hasn't shown many so I managed to grab one in the dressing room while shopping!

Thursday afternoon while resting my mom put her hand on Amanda's belly and was kicked by the little girl growing in there!  We are hoping that she sends pictures after her 3d ultrasound in a few weeks so we can see what the little one looks like :)

14 Weeks 3 Days Baby Bump Update

So we tried taking a few pictures on Sunday and Dane got frustrated because his phone wasn't cooperating so we tried again tonight.  After a few shots and a little frustration I think we have a picture that shows a bit of a difference from the last time.  I'm including our 11 week picture with the 14 week picture so you all can see the difference:

         11 Weeks                                                                           14 Weeks

And for good measure so you can see my frustration with my husband's photography skills :)
(I feel like you can almost see the bump better in this picture!)

Prenatal Chiropractor

For those of you that know me, I've seen a chiropractor since I was a kid because I had scoliosis.  I've continued to see one (on and off) throughout my adult life because I have ribs that will go out from time to time and general aches and pains in my neck and back that I need addressed.  I've been pretty uncomfortable the past few weeks (hip was out of place as well as a few ribs), but wanted to wait until 12 weeks to see anyone for fear that something bad could happen.  After talking to my OB (my first OB that is now no longer because she is moving to Africa), she informed me that she did not believe in chiropractic while pregnant and suggested I see a physical therapist.  I don't know about you, but I don't know any physical therapist that can get 3 ribs back into place, a hip in place, and push a vertabrae in my neck back in place...needless to say I did NOT follow her instructions.  I did my research and found a chiropractor here in the Indianapolis area that specializes in prenatal clients as well as pediatric!

My first visit was yesterday and I am absolutely thrilled that I went because I feel SO much better!  By seeing a chiropractor once a month throughout my pregnancy (and more frequent as I get bigger) I can help maintain my spine and the pressure that will be put on it as my belly gets bigger.  Not only that, but seeing a chiropractor throughout pregnancy can allow for a quicker and easier delivery (ummm YES PLEASE)!  They can turn breach babies without actually touching the baby and help you to avoid c-sections, as well as all kinds of other things.  Needless to say, I am a complete believer and so excited to continue seeing her.  I'll let you all know later if that claim of "quicker and easier delivery" really actually stands up. :)

The Perfect House!

So Dane and I have been scouring the city of Indianapolis for months now trying to find the perfect house at the perfect price (I know that doesn't exist).  We really like the Broad Ripple area of Indianapolis because it's centrally located (I work on the north side and Dane works downtown) and it's a really fun and happening place.  There are a ton of privately owned interesting restaurants, bike and walking paths, and older homes with amazing charm!  I scour the Internet about a million times a day (don't tell my boss) and saw a listing come on the market yesterday at about 3pm.  I IMMEDIATELY called Dane and told him to contact the listing agent because in this market if you snooze you lose!  We got in the house at 6pm last night and immediately knew we loved it.  It's 4 bedrooms with a loft for an office, 2 full bathrooms, updated kitchen with granite counters and stainless steel appliances, and it's a corner lot with a back patio and grill included (totally sweetens the deal for Dane).  We decided to put an offer in last night after seeing it, sent it in this morning, countered this afternoon and the seller ACCEPTED!!

We could not be more thrilled, but of course we will do an inspection and try to contain our excitement until everything has gone through.  No more one bedroom rental without a door to the bedroom...no more tiny closet...no more ironing board in the dining room...can you sense my excitement?? :)

Here is a picture of the exterior, if everything goes through I'll upload more pictures later.

12 Weeks

Saturday April 2nd marked 12 weeks for us which means we've made it a full three months!  We went to our 12 week appointment on Friday and met our OB for the first time, and spent most of the appointment waiting (almost an hour to be exact).  We met Dr. Hurry and she was absolutely amazing, she told us she would get us an ultrasound so we could see baby and make sure our due date was accurate (even though we knew it was accurate she just could tell we wanted to see another picture of the peanut).  After waiting another 30 minutes to get into the ultrasound room we FINALLY got to see the peanut on the big screen and for the first time heard the heartbeat!!

Words cannot explain how it feels to hear that tiny heartbeat that is inside of you.  We haven't been able to hear the heartbeat because our little swimmer has never cooperated with the doppler, but this time with the ultrasound we could see baby and hear the heartbeat all at the same time.  We are exact on our due date, baby measures perfectly, and the heartbeat is strong.

After seeing the heartbeat and cleaning up our OB sat down to have a "conversation" with us which truly scared the CRAP out of me.  Turns out that she is moving to Africa in 2 years and won't be doing OB while she is training...sooooo after meeting her and loving her we will be changing doctors.  Overall it's for the better because I've heard amazing things about another doctor in the practice that delivered all of my friends babies.  When in doubt go with a doctor that has been recommended!

This is one of the pictures of Baby Wilson - Head is to the left with the big alien eyes, two white spots to the right are the hands, and the big white blob to the right of that is the body.
